Dr.Sreeni Edakhlon, MD (Ophthalmology) (AIIMS), DNB,FRCS (Glasg), PGDHHM, is one of the highest volume cataract surgeries (Phacoemulsification ) surgeons in the world at present. Did a total of 7302 Cataract surgeries between April 2018 and March 2019 . He is an acclaimed Glaucoma specialist also. Dr Sreeni Edakhlon has been working with Comtrust Charitable Trust Eye Hospitals from year 2005. He is presently the chief Surgeon & Medical Director, Comtrust Charitable Trust Eye Hospital,Thalassery, Kannur District where he does upto 600 eye surgeries in a month & os also the Chief Surgeon of MAM Comtrust Eye Care Hospital Kanhangad, Kasaragod District where he does upto 250 surgeries in a month.

Organizes free eye camps, special screening camps for school children, special camps for the general public on eye diseases like glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and awareness programs on various eye diseases including corneal blindness and eye donation. Dr Sreeni is also the General Secretary of Kerala Society of Ophthalmic Surgeons As the General Secretary of Kerala Society of Ophthalmic Surgeons (KSOS) for the years 2018 and 2019 Dr Sreeni has been able to do numerous social service activities including Flood relief work, Low Vision Project, Chess for visually challenged, Blind walk, eye health awareness programs etc.

As the General Secretary of Kerala Society of Ophthalmic Surgeons mobilized donations from Ophthalmologists from all over India and donated an amount of more than Rs Fifty Lakh (Rs 50,00.000) to CMDF to help the flood victims. This is probably the highest amount donated by any medical association to CMDRF. Organised 38 statewide free Eye Camps on a single day for the flood victims in all districts of Kerala on October 7th 2018. This was the first time that so many eye camps have been arranged on a single day covering all districts of a state in India. Started Vision Enhancement Program for individuals with low vision. The first such project in India. The program which has been initiated in three districts ( Kozhikode, Thrissur and Kollam) will be extended to all districts of Kerala.

Has been organizing state level Continuing Medical Education programs every year in Kannur District from year 2008. Has organized 13 state level Continuing Medical Education programs .Organized two annual State Ophthalmic Conferences in years 2009 (Drishti 2009) and 2018 (Drishti 2018). Kerala Society of Ophthalmic Surgeons organizes the 3 day annual conferences every year in November .

Have many presentations in state, national and international conferences including at World Ophthalmology Congress, Asia ARVO and Annual conference of European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.

Got the best paper certificate for the presentation titled “Posterior Iris Claw lens for surgical correction of Aphakia – Long term results” at the 69th annual national conference of All India Ophthalmic Society in year 2011 at Ahmedabad. Won the second best poster award at Asia ARVO ( The association for research in Vision and ophthalmology ) in year 2013 . At AIOC 2019 Indore – Presentation - In vitro activity of moxifloxacin against conjunctival flora got the best paper of session award in cataract free paper session Was awarded the best Duty Conscious Citizen Award by Lions Club International District 318E. The award was presented by Lions International District Governor Dr Rajeev S on 15/10/2019 - World White cane day. Was felicitated by Mr Ankan Banarjee deputy chief of mission, Indian High Commission of France, at a function in Paris on 23/09/2019 for his services to Indian Ophthalmology.

Dr Sreeni is married to Dr Priya, an ayurveda physician and has two children, Eesha Meenakshi and Maadhav Mahadev. The house that Dr Sreeni and Dr Priya has designed has been featured in reputed architectural magazines and TV shows.

In the year 2006 headed the team that started Comtrust Eye Care Hospital, Thalassery. As the Medical director and Chief Surgeon has made this hospital one of the leading eye hospitals in Kerala. Does up to 600 surgeries a month in this hospital. In addition to free eye camps, the hospital is also involved in school screening programs, and awareness classes for the general public on eye diseases like glaucoma, corneal blindness & eye donation and diabetic retinopathy. Was instrumental in starting the SIMS Comrtust Eye care Hospital, Mavungal, Anandasram,Kanjangad as the chief surgeon in year 2008. Kasargod District which had no good eye hospital till then is now well cared for by this hospital. As the chief Surgeon does up to 250 surgeries every month in the rural area of Kasaragod district, Mavungal where this hospital is situated. This hospital which was started by Comtrust Eye care society is now being managed by MAM Charitable Trust.

Providing free medical camp (mass disaster epidemic)

Organised and lead the free Eye Camp for flood victims at Chungakkunnu UP School Kottiyoor, Kannur on October 7th 2018 in which free treatment, glasses and medicines were provided to flood victims who lost their glasses, treatment records and medicines during the flood of year 2018. On the same day I organized 37 more similar free eye camps for flood victims in all districts of Kerala as General secretary of KSOS. These statewide camps were inaugurated by MLA Sri Sunny Joseph the camp held at Chungakkunnu UP School Kottiyoor. This was the first time that so many eye camps have been arranged on a single day covering all districts of a state in India
